Let's start writing!

Period 3/4W--SUB DAY PLANS:
I can...explain my characters, conflict, and setting.  I can experiment with writing opening lines.
Part I: FIRST LINES
  • Complete the “Mentor Text” handout I’ve included copies of with Mr. Potts.  The directions are on the sheet.  You should type your answers in you  “Dystopian Journal” which is in your Google Docs.
  • After 10 mins, there will be time to share out a favorite (if you'd like to) with the class.
Part II: COMPLETING OUTLINE PACKET
  • You will have 20 minutes to complete your Outline Packets for the dystopia you are writing.  After 15-20 mins...
  • In partners, take ten minutes to share your story outline with a partner orally, not just by switching papers.  Here are the partners:
    • Stacia, Conner, and Harrison
    • Will and Christina
    • Mikaela and Megan
    • Beverly and Sage
    • Morgan and Eathan
    • Wyatt and Josh
    • Garrison and Kallista
  • After ten minutes, you can share any storylines with the whole group.
  • To pass in your story outlines to me, you should take a photo of EACH page (three total) and upload to your Google Folder.  Name each “Outline” so I know what it is.
Part III: WRITING
  • The remainder of class (or for students who completed the outline already) you should be dedicated to writing your dystopia and trying out one of the first lines they just created.  Silent and individually.  Yes to earbuds if you want.  
  • A draft of your dystopia is due next class! A draft counts as at least ¾ of the story complete!

  1. Entrance ticket
  2. Outline packet due!  When it's complete, take a photo of each page and upload.
  3. Discuss your outlines.
  4. Play with writing opening lines. 
  5. WRITE!
