Happy Back-to-the-future day! Essays due!

Today is the day...your writing is due!

  • Make sure your best draft is located in your name folder for English class.
    • Make the title of the document obvious such as: "Curious Incident Essay" or "Social Norms essay"
  • Set up your paper with the following in the corner of your own essay/writing:
    • Name, date, class period
    • The R, A, F, T you selected
    • Word count:________ (essay only, nothing else)
  • Thesis driven essay?  Underline your thesis. Not applicable if yours is creative.
  • Give your essay, on the paper itself, an interesting title.  "Essay" is dull.  Try this out:
    • Use strange or unique imagery. Using the description of an image will give your reader a visual that will then frame the rest of the essay. Think of bold or striking imagery that relates to what you wrote about to develop the first part of your title. For example, a paper about a volcano could have the title: “The Day the Earth Bled: The Eruption of Mount Vesuvius."
      • For your paper, consider this template--> "Bold statement : Focus of the paper" Play with creativity!
  • Inserting in-text citations!
    • Eric Campbell's presentation becomes (Campbell) inside your paper.  Or you can reference him directly in your writing, such as, “Spurwink representative Eric Campbell said…”
    • Curious Incident in text citations look like this (Haddon page #).
    • Temple Grandin film references should wording such as, "In the 2010 film Temple Grandin, directed by Mick Jackson,..." or you could say (Jackson) at the end of the sentence.
  • Put a bibliography at THE END of your essay.  Feel free to EasyBib.  You will, at least, have two entries in your bibliography, Haddon and Campbell.  The Campbell presentation should look exactly like this (I’ve included it because a lecture it’s a little trickier…):

Campbell, Eric. “Autism Spectrum Disorders.” 2015 Presentation. Freeport High School. 2 Oct. 2015. Discussion.

  • Pass in your DRAFT FORM you had an adult fill out with you.
  • Write your DRAFT LETTER (see opposite side)
