- Visit from a special guest: Asher Strickland
- Collecting motif--->Add to sidebar google doc
- Fly Swatter Game!
- Snowball conversation about the book:
- How do people make distinctions between “us” and “them”? Why do they make these distinctions? Use examples if you can.
- Think about a cultural group outside of your own. In what ways can not understanding that cultural group lead to fear? Prejudice? Consider different cultural groups in terms of gender, religion, economic status (how much $$ people have), sexuality, ethnicity/race
- If at it’s most basic level, the Holocaust was the result of an us-versus-them mentality, do you think this could this happen again?
- How powerful is the connection between what we fear and how we treat others? If you can add any examples from history or life...go for it.
- Think about this quote: “Where books are burned, in the end people will be burned.” What does it mean to you? Is it literal or figurative?
- Think of the "thems" in our world. How can we break down these barriers? How does it happen in the Book Thief?
